There are times when the world keeps getting me down;
Kicks me in the teeth; I thought I got it all sussed out,
But I was wrong; I didn’t know where I belonged.
I needed somewhere where I could sing my songs.
And in my imagination,
I was drowning inside my own despair.
I was lost in contemplation,
I needed a sanctuary where I could lose my cares.
I’m building bridges, across the water,
Where I was sinking in my mind.
I’ll build a boat so I can sail the ocean,
Where I was swimming with no land to find.
I felt my life just kept slipping away,
And every time I made the same mistakes;
I should have tried harder, but now I’m older,
And much wiser than I ever was before.
I’m building bridges, across the water,
Where I was sinking in my mind.
I’ll build a house so I can protect my family,
And keep them warm and safe until the day I die.
